Period House Restoration - Belmont House, Innishannon
This full renovation of a Grade II listed property in West Cork was completed in 2024 to create a luxury guest house for the AirBNB and short term rental market. Build circa 1820 this unique property features unique architectural details such as gothic windows, arched ceiling details and original timber floors which were respectfully restored as part of the project.
Enlisting the help of Enhance Interior Design for a full turnkey project, following a referral from a family friend we had recently worked with, the project began with a thorough review of the existing floor plans and site survey to design a layout that would work for the next chapter of the house, this was done in tandem with concept designs for each space.
Detail drawings were produced for all room layouts, fitted furniture, bathrooms, lighting and a full schedule of finishes and materials provided clarity to all suppliers and contractors.
Regular site visits throughout the project meant we were on hand to talk though any potential issues as they became apparent throughout the restoration. The project was completed with art, accessories and final styling for marketing photography and a complete turnkey interior ready for guests.
At the heart of the home is an impressive shaker style kitchen with a suite of modern appliances including a boiling water tap and vented hob, multiple dining areas such as the sweeping island bar and breakfast nook overlook the River Bandon and create different opportunities to relax throughout the day. A formal dining room overlooks the stunning mature gardens with enough space for large groups to dine together.
In the formal lounge we arranged the seating to appreciate the dual aspect views over both the mature gardens and River Bandon, creating an ideal space to entertain or watch a movie together.
There is also a recreational room downstairs that includes a home gym.
Embracing the architectural details, the classic elegance of the ground floor was retained through tactile wallpapers, luxurious fabrics and beautiful lighting.
The lower ground floor, differing in architecture was designed in a cosy and rustic interior style.
The house was furnished with a mix of bespoke fitted furniture, locally sourced antiques and timeless pieces that will last for many years.
We designed each of the five bedrooms and bathrooms differently so that returning guests could have a different experience during each stay or choose a favourite room to return to year after year. We designed each bedroom with its own stand out feature - The Master Suite has a walk in wardrobe and a luxurious ensuite with freestanding roll top bath, Bedroom two has a four poster bed and fireplace, bedroom three has a super king size bed with ensuite, bedroom four has a beautiful feminine palette with ensuite and bedroom five sleeps three with both a double and single bed.
The end result is a luxurious guest house full of homely character, steeped in local history but with all the modern conveniences to enhance each guests visit to West Cork.
